Time to celebrate! When and where to spot Norfolk's seal-pup baby-boom.

As our company's namesake it's no mystery we love our Norfolk seals (who doesn't?) So we were beyond excited to hear of the latest 'baby-boom' of seal pups along the coast these past months.

As recently reported in The Guardian  over 1,200 seal pups were born this season along the eastern coast of Norfolk at Horsey Beach.  Compare these figures to 2002, when the first colony at Horsey was formed with 50 seal pups, and it's clear there's something special happening. This, combined with the seal colony at Blakeney along the North Norfolk coast make the region one of the best places in the UK to view these lovable pinnipeds.

So what makes the Norfolk coastline such an attractive breeding ground for the grey and common seals? A combination of cleaner water, ample food supply and healthy refuge from busy shipping lanes make the area ideal for seals to colonise.

In the winter months, Horsey Beach and Winterton are best to spot the seals during breeding season running from October to March. Access to the beaches are restricted during this time, but there are still great views and with any luck, you might even catch a live birth!

In the summer, we recommend booking a boat trip from Morston Quay to Blakeney Point with any number of local boat companies including Temple Seal Trips and John Bean Boat Trips. It's a must-do for all the family and quite a site to watch them waving hello from the sand spit, or greeting you boat side!
