Our guide to Norfolk's best independent markets, makers and boutique stores
Share
Norfolk is a hive of independent makers, artisans and budding entrepreneurs. Indeed some of our favourite British brands were seeded in our favourite corner of England including esteemed leather goods experts and 'Rural Chic' fashion brand Fairfax & Favor, purveyor of luxury homeware, lifestyle goods and fragrances, Norfolk Natural Living and even performance wear specialist Finisterre was inspired by founder Tom Kay's summer holidays spent sailing along Morston Creek.
They all started somewhere.
Here are our picks of must-see local markets and boutique stores where you'll stumble upon unique finds, insider brands and perhaps spot a seal or two!
Holt Sunday Market Held the first Sunday of the month from April-December PLUS a bonus Christmas market in November, HSM is an award winning, destination street market in the picture-perfect Georgian town of Holt and THE place for sourcing something unique to Norfolk. HSM shines a spotlight on independent artisans, craftspeople, designers, makers and some stellar street food. We recommend taking the train, walking or booking parking in advance to avoid disappointment!
Creake Abbey Just south of Burnham Market and nestled neatly off the B1355 and Burnham Road is a hidden gem of ancient abbey ruins, independent shops, a cafe and monthly farmers' market. Their ever popular artisan gift fairs are held in April, August and November and bursting with creatives and local brands, including a few spotted-seals (PS- See Where to spot us for dates!)
The Burnhams Market Food, fashion, drink and lifestyle, whatever your interest you're sure to find it here. Founded in 2023, The Burnhams Market is a carefully curated spring and summer market perfect for a little retail therapy, Norfolk style. Aptly situated in one of Norfolk's best loved towns affectionately dubbed 'Chelsea-on-Sea,' find it in St. Mary's Westgate Church, Burnham Market.
Bakers & Larners of Holt Independent department store Larners is a Norfolk institution, brimming with well-known brands including Barbour, Merry People, Yeti and other luxury home goods to name a few. We love the recently renovated food hall as well as its incredible selection of wines from around the world. No trip to Holt is complete without stopping into Larners.
Thornham Deli 'Eat, drink, shop, stay'. Thornham Deli has become a Norfolk destination and has a bit of something for everyone- locals and holiday-makers, alike. We love their general store of quirky homeware, distinct fashion finds and unique knick-knackery. It is also known to host some pretty cool parking-lot pop-ups from time to time, (just saying!)
