Our essential Norfolk pub guide

Autumn has officially arrived and we confess, it's probably our favourite season. Controversial, but what's not to love? The air is crisp, fall foliage colours pop, beaches are empty for long dog walks and drum roll... it's officially pub weather. Get cosy by a crackling fire with a frothy pint, tasty roast and seasonal fare at these top spots.
- The Kings Head - Letheringsett. Situated just outside Holt, our family has been heading to this gem since its days of green felt carpet and tacky-tables. How times change. That was then, today it stands as one of the region's top spots for your pick of pub classics, locally-sourced dishes and top notch wine and beer.
- Byfords of Holt. Not a pub, per se, but a firm favourite all the same. Housed in one of the town's oldest buildings, the 'higgledy-piggledy' world of Byfords has stood as a Holt mainstay for decades. Recently re-decorated, this treasure still boasts cosy-corners, crackling fires and family fare to suit all tastes. Stay the night in one of their impeccably appointed rooms.
- The Victoria - Holkham. Situated on the stunning grounds of the Holkham National Nature Reserve, The Victoria embodies the Estate's steadfast dedication to 'farm-to-fork' sustenance and living off the local land. Whether it's beef from its cows, produce from its walled garden, venison from the roaming dear or fresh game from the family shoot- its carefully considered menu never disappoints.
- The Gunton Arms Situated on a 1000-acre deer park, it's no mystery where most of the menu is sourced. Gloriously rustic, unapologetically antler-bedecked and oozing pub charm, chef Stuart Tattersall has earned a reputation for excellence since opening in 2011. Menus change daily and we recommend booking in advance.
- The Maltings - Weybourne. Epitomising Norfolk charm and elegance, this hotel and restaurant is fast becoming a destination among foodies and locals alike. Flint and brick cottages surround its flagship restaurant, The Grain Store. This converted barn serves local fare from land and sea with creative five-star flare.
